Manreet Mangat (left), a Penticton Hospital candy striper and her friend, Chelsea Maxted (right), are embracing the ethos of giving. The inspired pair, whose birthdays are just three days apart, are asking family and friends to replace presents with donations for those in need. Last year, they raised money for those affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal. This year they collected toys, teddy bears, games, storybooks and pencil crayons for the children of the Penticton Regional Hospital. They also raised $260 in cash, half of which went to the hospital and half towards Fort McMurray fire relief. It is the support and generosity of others, they insist, that makes their efforts possible. “We are extremely fortunate to have the friends and family that we do, so that we can help others. It feels good to receive gifts for ourselves, but it feels even better to give back.”
