All around our beautiful province, crisp, cool nights, clear days, and garden pathways dotted with crimson, orange and golden leaves are sure signs that in the life of Healthcare Auxiliaries, a new season is upon us.
Many volunteers are re-connecting after the long summer break, and during the past few weeks, the BCAHA Executive has also been re-connecting with our many members through attendance at scheduled Area Conferences and Annual President’s Meetings. Our members have warmly welcomed us, and these meetings have provided mutual educational and information-gathering opportunities.
I had the pleasure of attending the Northwest Area Conference in Terrace September 18th to 20th, and enjoyed the warm hospitality of auxilians from several Healthcare Auxiliaries who participated under the theme the MAD HATTER’S EVENT. At the first evening’s mixer, attendees decorated straw hats which were later judged on the basis of artistry and innovativeness, a great test of our collective creative abilities. The Conference committee invited me to speak on Membership, Meeting Attendance and Recruitment–three areas that are fundamental to building an energetic and forward-thinking auxiliary.
My visit to Terrace was also made special by a tour during which I learned about the history of the area. I visited the University Campus highlighted by a massive wooden First Nations Longhouse, the local hospital, the Mills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store, and so much more.
Until we meet again, I wish you all continued success.
