The Rossland Healthcare Auxiliary
President/ Lindsay Premier
We operate our Thrift Store three days a week from 10 am till 4 pm. with two, three hour shifts of at least three volunteers working at one time. We also are open Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. We had to close our store for two months in mid March due to COVID and were able to reopen June 3 with all the necessary COVID protocols in place. The community is very generous with donations, and we also send unusable clothing to Positive Apparel from Nelson who collects biweekly. These items are taken by truck to Vancouver for shipment overseas to be recycled into other uses. Two dedicated volunteers recycle all our metal, plastic, electronics, and other goods we can’t sell. This saves a lot from just going to the landfill.
Our primary donations from store sales are given to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital Foundation upon request from the Director. This could be a lump sum payment for a campaign such as $155,000 donated to the new Emergency building hub center or a wish list of items submitted from departments at the hospital. We also donate funds to Hospice, Search and Rescue, Poplar Ridge Pavilion and Columbia View center. Our mandate is to provide funds to only healthcare related organizations and specific requests from groups. We do not donate to individuals. We also allow donations in kind for fire, flood, and disaster victims. A new executive will be inducted at the next AGM to be held in late January, 2022
